Set on the southern edge of the Bergerac wine-growing region of the Dordogne, La Barthe is an exclusive development of three luxury cottages, lovingly created from two large centuries-old barns and a farmer's cottage which until 1995 was a working farm. Each cottage contains many of the original features such as oak beams, stone walls, and niches. They are grouped around a central courtyard bordered on one side by walnut trees and set in 23 acres of wood and meadowland.

On the property are a large number of fruit trees, pears, plums and apples and walnuts in abundance; the fruits of all these trees are available to our guests when in season. The gardens of the cottages and the courtyard have been beautifully landscaped to provide an harmonious and relaxing atmosphere to ensure that you and your family have a carefree and enjoyable holiday.

The walls of one of the old barns have been retained to provide a secluded and safe area for the swimming pool, which is a real swimmers' pool. The sun reflecting off the walls creates the ideal environment for rest, and relaxation. Also within the walls of the barn is the children's paddling pool which is independent of the swimming pool.

To become a Grand Master at Chess, it's best to start young. This young man is thinking hard about his next move - time doesn't matter - if he waits long enough, he will grow big enough to lift the pieces. Next year he will also be able to ride one of the bikes.

The complex has a happy family atmosphere, and every attempt has been made to give the cottages a typical French feel. The English owners Roy and Ann Dando, live on site and are always available to help and advise if and when required.
